I was volunteering at SC in ‘09, it is an activity camp which we took a group of adults with varying forms of learning and physical disabilities to for a week.
The centre had many amazing accessible activities including, abseiling, rock climbing, archery and more. On the day we were rock climbing I decided it would be a perfect opportunity for some pictures (having recently purchased my first DLSR I was desperate to use it!). After taking a few shots from the ground I decided to be more adventurous. I went to the top of the tower with the instructor and had my self harnessed to the tower. I then proceeded to hang myself over the top of the tower and float in mid air. From there I had the perfect position to take some really great shots. I am so happy with how they came out.
The joy on the faces of these women really touched me, and what’s more is that if I hadn’t gone to the top of the tower we would have never seen their joy from underneath.
It puts the exact reason I love photography right there for all to see, the ability of catching such incredible moments in a single frame, forever remembered.
